November 29 - December 1, 2007:
Grand Wailea Resort
Fun in the sun at the Grand Waileia Resort...Linda and Gene gave me a birthday present of three days and
two nights at the Grand Waileia (a place where we come for happy hour at least once a trip)...it was super, duper awesome!!!!
Lobby
| The hotel was being decorated for Christmas during our stay. This resort abounds with
art; statues, paintings and fountains everywhere you look...nothing is "small" here...

Room with a view
| We were upgraded to a deluxe ocean view room (woo hoo!) because we are superstars, no doubt...check it out; you can see
Lanai from our lanai...get it?
Also, there was a stream heading to a Koi pond just below our room...very cool.

Grounds
| The Botero Bar was one of our favorite hangs, due to a super cool bartender and the great setting...

| Around the grounds you find Koi ponds, statues, huts for hanging out and, oh yah, this giant water park...two water slides and multiple
pools with a river connecting
them. We spent time at the Grotto - the swim up bar - with another cool bartender that lives "off the grid" on the north shore with his wife and two teenage kids...they catch rain
for their water source and are completely solar-powered...we also swam the currents of the river and rode the slides...more pics from the underwater camera to follow.

Above the river.
Cave through the pools.

On our last day we went to the front desk to see if there were any books on the artwork at the resort. They sent us to a gallery onsite, where we were
told there used to be a book but that it was no longer in print...we were able to view a series of Picasso etchings that evolved from realism to cubism (
Les Deux Femmes Nues series 1945-46 was the end result - dig it!), as well as
one of the Marily Monroe reversal pieces by Warhol (Four Marilyns - dug it!).
We then went to the pools for more water slide and swimming fun...followed by lounging
by the ocean while sipping cocktails and reading. It was a great trip!
